Workshops and Roundtables
Michelle Hartzer had some terrific ideas for educators in her workshop
"Presenting Arthropods...Without the Arthropods, from arts and crafts to scavenger hunts.
Erin Sullivan and Lou Perrotti share their experience with Bug Club projects including arts and crafts.
David Faulkner, in his "Forensic Entomology: Flies on D-Fence" workshop, provided an
overview of the topic, how it is applied, case studies, and an opportunity to collect
and identify insect decomposers while excavating a “crime scene.”
Chuck Kristensen brought many interesting spiders to his workshop
"Using Common Household Spiders in Activities, Lesson Plans and Science Projects"
in an interactive discovery process, learning how to pull silk, analyze webs and
extract venom as they explored numerous options for using common spiders in the classroom.
Patty Beckley led a good discussion in her roundtable "What Can the General Public Comprehend?" encouraging those who attended to share their experiences with the public.
Erin Sullivan and Jamie Sincage led a roundtable for people that rear or display
invertebrates and would like a reference source to turn to when looking for information.
TITAG is working on just the reference site. This roundtable brought participants up
to date on the status of forms to be added to the database.
Wayne Wehling led a roundtable to help us all understand the new
ePermit System and other new regulations of the USDA. Part of the
roundtable had to be held in the lobby in order to access the internet!
