Invertebrate Exhibits or Getting Some Feces Into Everything

Raymond Mendez founded Work As Play in 1980 after spending 14 years at the American Museum of Natural History as an Entomologist and then senior principal artist in Exhibits. WAP was initially focused in the communication industries. He was principal in projects such as Silence of the Lambs, the ad for Alien, and Ronald MacDonald.  Quite by accident his love of mole-rats led him to work in zoos. His passion for mixing conservation story-telling with fun led him to work on Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Trail of the Elephants in Australia and the Kid’s Zone in Tacoma.  He is a vocal proponent of personalized interpretation and the power of visitor participation. He now serves on the AZA CEC advisory board.  He will discuss future goals for invertebrate exhibits in Zoos.

General Guidelines
Over the years we have found that these general guidelines help make the Conference a success.

Please do not submit a proposal unless your funding support is guaranteed.

• Acknowledgement of receipt of your proposal will be e-mailed to you within one week.

• Notification of proposal acceptance will be sent by the second week of March.

• We offer registration discounts to encourage broad representation by the invertebrate specialists’ community. If presenters can pay full registration we are grateful and appreciate your support.

• Additional fees for optional events and meals are not included with any registration discounts.

• Submission of a proposal DOES NOT register you for the Conference. Discounts only apply if registration and payment are received by June 15, 2008 (unless other arrangements are made with the Conference Coordinator).

• Young people are always welcome to participate, but those under 18 years of age are required to come with a registered parent or legal guardian who will accompany them at Conference events.

• Questions should be directed to the specific coordinator:
