Gray Hairstreak
Strymon melinus

General: The Gray Hairstreak is the most common hairstreak in the southwest and likely to be found anywhere in the Memorial. Adults often bask with wings open; males perch on shrubbery on hilltops.
Flight: spring to fall
Foodplant: flowering parts of many different plants including bear grass, Nolina; senna, Senna; and buckwheat, Eriogonum
Status: resident
