| PROFESSIONAL CONTENT: | |
| The formal Conference Program is intended to be an instructional and educational format for information exchange. As a courtesy to our colleagues, and in fairness to our paying vendors and exhibitors, the Conference Program is not a platform for the sale of products or consulting work. All submitted manuscripts and formal presentations should adhere to this professional intent. | |
| DUE DATE: | |
| To retain registration discounts, speakers must turn in their completed manuscripts and CD (and, if presenting in PowerPoint, the PowerPoint CD) when checking in at the Conference registration table. We will NOT complete registration until we receive the manuscript and CD or the balance of your full registration. | |
| MANUSCRIPT: | |
| Manuscript must be camera-ready on standard letter size paper (21.5 x 28cm or 8.5 x 11in.). Written text pages should be crisp, clean and clear. Tables, graphs, photos, artwork, etc. should be clean and have good contrast. Illegible and unclear graphics will not be included. Include one (1) copy of printed (text) pages. Please print on regular bond paper (no heavy weight or textured papers). No artwork, photos or other materials will be returned to the author. In addition to the hard copy, a CD of the manuscript is required. The text must be done in a .doc (IBM compatible) format. Graphics should be done as .tif or .jpg. Please check the CD to make sure it works. |
|
| LENGTH: | |
| No more than eight (8) pages in entirety. Papers longer than eight pages may not be included in the Proceedings without prior approval. | |
| MARGINS: | |
| Maintain at least 2.54 cm (1 in.) margins around (top, sides, bottom) all pages. | |
| PAGE NUMBERS: | |
| Sequentially number page bottoms very lightly with soft lead pencil only. | |
| TYPE FONT: | |
| Twelve (12) point, letter-quality, serif type style; preferred type styles are Times New Roman or Times. Please, no non-letter-quality or sans serif type styles: e.g. Arial, Helvetica. | |
| TEXT JUSTIFICATION: | |
| Left margin justification only. Do not justify right margin. | |
| LINE SPACING: | |
| Paragraph beginnings are not indented. Single line spacing within paragraphs. Double line spacing between paragraphs. Triple line spacing before major headings. | |
| TITLE: | |
| Brief, descriptive, capitalized, bolded, centered and followed by one line space. | |
| AUTHOR INFORMATION: | |
| First line shows only author name (bolded). Next line shows position, department and institution. Third line shows complete mailing address including postal code and country. All shown in mixed (standard upper and lower) case and centered. | |
| MAJOR HEADINGS: | |
| (i.e. Introduction, Methods, Results or other appropriate major divisions) should be preceded by two line spaces, capitalized, bolded, left justified and followed by one line space. | |
| SUBHEADINGS: | |
| Logical topic divisions following a major heading are optional, but if used are preceded by one line space, mixed case, bolded, underlined, left justified, followed by a colon and run into text. | |
| MEASUREMENTS: | |
| Use the metric system with units abbreviated. If desired for clarification, metric measurements can be followed by parenthetical English units. For example: The caterpillar was 7.5 cm. (3 in.) long and weighed 14 gm. (0.5 oz.). | |
| DATES AND TIMES: | |
| Use the international dating system (day, month, year) and military time (24 hour clock). For example: The caterpillar stopped eating on 14 March 1952 at 0300 hrs. and pupated at 1425 hrs.(=3:00A.M. and 2:25 P.M., respectively). | |
| SPECIES NAMES: | |
| Common and scientific names should be linked early (i.e., Title or Introduction) in the manuscript. For clarification, taxonomic order and family optionally can be shown at this time. For example: Laboratory rearing of the giant water bug Abedus herberti (Hemiptera: Belostomatidae). Common names generally are not capitalized except when proper. Scientific names are italicized. Authorship of scientific names (i.e. Abedus herberti Hidalgo) is optional, but should be provided on first usage if nomenclature problems exist. | |
| WITHIN TEXT REFERENCE CITATIONS: | |
| Author(s) can be cited in either of two ways depending on sentence structure. For example: In an elegant experiment, Smith (1995) showed that legless grasshoppers cannot jump. Or: It has been clearly demonstrated that legless grasshoppers cannot jump (Smith 1995). | |
| REFERENCES: | |
| Following the major heading at the papers end, all authors cited should be listed alphabetically according to surname; also indicating article title and source. For example: Smith, J.P. (1995): Effects of appendage removal on insect locomotion. Journal of Arthropod News 3(4):21-22. | |
| IMPORTANT NOTE: | |
| Manuscripts that are late or unsuitable for printing may be omitted from the published Invertebrates In Education and Conservation Conference Proceedings. | |
