narrow-winged damselfly
Argia sp.

Closely related to dragonflies, damselflies are similarly tied to aquatic environments. They are feeble fliers and when alighting, hold the wings folded over their back. Males are more brightly colored than females. The nymphs have three leaf-like gills at the apex of the abdomen and feed on other aquatic insects.

big red skimmer
Libulella saturata

This species can be seen long distances from water where its immature stages live.. Dragonflies are masters of the air, catching mosquitos, midges and other insects in a basket-like arrangement of their legs. Like all dragonflies, the big red skimmer is a strong flier.
