New Venue a Hit with those attending the
1999 Invertebrates in
Captivity Conference SASI's 7th Annual Invertebrates in Captivity Conference was held at the Rio Rico Resort, about 50 miles south of Tucson. This exciting new venue was well received by the 161 invertebrate specialists who came from around the country to attend papers, workshops and field trips. Although the Resort's location presented a few logistical challenges, it proved to be a terrific place to hold the event. With natural areas close at hand, participants reveled in the opportunity to just step out the door to observe or collect arthropods for their exhibit needs. Moreover, the Resort's staff were terrific-friendly, courteous and helpful in every way. As such, we have already contracted for the next three years to lock in good rates for rooms and banquet services. |
One of the highlights of the 1999 Conference was a panel discussion concerning the future of the Conference. Randy Morgan, Janet Bardwell and Steve Prchal fielded questions and suggestions on how to improve the Conference in the future. Participant feedback and offers to be involved next year were invaluable and the 2000 Conference will reflect the input received. Increased field opportunities were high on everyone's list so next year will not only offer several full day field trips on Thursday as in the past, but also half day field trips Friday-Sunday. And, instead of having workshops on just Friday, there will be workshops Friday-Sunday as well. Paper sessions will be held each morning with concurrent field trips and workshops in the afternoon. Other exciting changes and additions are being planned so stay tuned and start making plans to attend next year, August 3-6, 2000.
