.A walk in the cloud forest canopy
.
Sky Walk is a privately owned reserve of about 560 acres. There is a two kilometer nature trail through the forest and the steep canyon walls are joined by long suspension bridges. The first bridge is but 30 feet long but four others exceed 300 feet. The longest is 656 feet—more than two football fields long. Not only is this one the longest, it is also the highest, measuring 150 feet above the creek below.

It rained lightly for most of my visit but not enough to be rushed. There was a lot to take in but because of the early hour and rain, insect and reptile activity was minimal. Regardless, I had a great time looking at the top side of trees and other plants. A cup of coffee with the some of the staff provided more information on their activities and the road I would take to continue my journey.

The road to Tilaran
.
I preferred not to go back the way I had come so instead opted for another rough dirt road headed northwest to Tilaran. The amount of rough road would be the same but shaved time and miles from my travels for the day.

Like in many areas of Costa Rica, about the only forest remaining is that in protected reserves. Although Costa Rica has the best record in the world for preserving its forests (more than 25 percent is protected), they are also leaders in clearing that which is not protected. These images taken along the way attest to the large timbering activities followed by clearing for agriculture.
