I discovered that the rocky island just off shore at high tide became a peninsula when the tide went out. On the other side of the isthmus was a rocky beach with a broken shell substrate. On the rocks I found this crab and groupings of small snails. I also found a small tide pool that was the temporary home to numerous shrimp and a striped fish. Although there is a similarity, I don't think these are the same sergeant majors that are commonly seen in the Gulf of California. As I headed back, I encountered a neighbor visiting from higher ground. |

By 11:00, I had taken nearly 150 images on the beach and figured it was time to pack it in. I climbed up the steps leading from the beach to the hotel's pool area. Everyone had gone to bed but this lone cicada. |

In the morning, I was up long before the restaurant was ready to serve breakfast but I was able to get some coffee. Since I could help myself to a cup whenever I wanted, I was fortified to get showered, repack and check out before I joined Scott for breakfast. |

I filled up in anticipation of an unknown lunch and was quickly on my way. As soon as I was out of the driveway, I could see that the red-legged crab was very active in the early morning. The road was crawling with them. I saw several feeding on a road-killed brother, setting themselves up to join him when the next car came by. I stopped to take a few photos and learned that, here along the road, they readily take to the trees in response to the perceived threat of this photographer. |
