From March 13 - June 13, 2001, SASI founder and director Steve Prchal was on sabbatical in Costa Rica. Follow his adventures in this photo-rich journal as he visited various locations around this center of biodiversity, living with families involved in the sustainable industry of breeding butterflies for export to exhibitions in the US, Canada and Europe.

Friends of SASI provided many plant and animal identifications during the 2001 Invertebrates in Captivity Conference and these pages have been updated with that information. Thanks to Harvey Fischer, Tom Hecker, Brent Karner and Tom Mason for their input. More identifications will be added as they become available.
