The Best Tactical Backpacks Of 2019

1 Comment 906 Views

No matter if you’re conducting a military simulation or going on a weekend hunting trip, one of the pieces of gear that are essential is a tactical backpack. Tactical backpacks are known for their storage capacity and durability, as manufacturers make them so that they can survive the most rigorous of conditions.

In recent years, many companies have begun producing tactical backpacks. When browsing online, it could be difficult to determine which model is best. Fortunately, our team at Orion Tactical tests and reviews tactical gear. We’re here to provide you with what we think are the three best tactical backpacks of 2019. No matter you’re reasoning for buying a tactical bag, we’re confident that you’ll be satisfied when choosing one of these models.

5.11 RUSH72 Tactical Backpack

5.11 is one of the most trusted brands in the tactical industry, so it’s no surprise to see their RUSH72 Tactical Backpack at the top of our list. This backpack is one of the pricier options on our list, ranging from about $170 to $250 depending on which color you choose. Available colors include:

  • Black
  • Dark Earth
  • Double Tap
  • Multicam
  • OD
  • Sandstone
  • Storm

Although this pack is a bit pricy, we feel that it is an investment well worth making. 5.11 built this pack with 1000D nylon, which is incredibly durable and water-repellent. The bag offers 55 liters of total capacity, making it large enough to support extended trips. We also like that the pack has large front and side pockets, as well as a hydration compartment.

A few other features about this pack stood out to us as well. 5.11 incorporated a Molle design, allowing users to keep organized during a mission. The molded grip pulls are glove-friendly. There is also an admin organization pocket that is easily accessible, allowing you to store things such as a phone, radio, maps, and documents. Lastly, 5.11 stressed an ergonomic design, with closed-cell shoulder straps and dual compression straps.

Many customers were impressed with how comfortable it was to carry this backpack. A few customers noted that the bag was large enough to store at least three days’ worth of belongings, and potentially up to five if they packed light. Lastly, this pack’s durability stood out to customers as well, with one person remarking that it was “built like a tank.”

G.P.S. Tactical Range Backpack

G.P.S.’ Tactical Range Backpack is a bit more affordable than the 5.11 model, available on Amazon for about $130. Unfortunately, there are only two colors available, Tan and Black. However, a lack of colors aside, the pack is an excellent option for those in search of a weekend tactical backpack. The bag measures 13” x 10” x 18”.

G.P.S. stressed security when building this backpack. They incorporated Teflon-coated lockable zippers so that you can keep your belongings safe. Additionally, there are an astounding three gun cases built into this backpack, making it an excellent option for those in search of a tactical range or hunting bag.

During testing, we also found that this model was very well built. The company made the backpack of 1000 denier polyester. They also included an internal honeycomb frame, making this one of the more rigid models that we tested. Customers will also find a triple-stitched Molle webbing system, which makes it easy to add accessories to the pack. The padded waist strap makes this pack comfortable to carry, although perhaps not as much so as the 5.11 backpack.

When browsing customer reviews, many noted that they felt safe storing their weapons in this bag and that it was large enough to do so. They also appreciated that the bag allowed them to keep their things organized, compared to many range bags which saw supplies fall to the bottom of the bag. Customers said that they could store three weapons in the bag along with all of their required shooting accessories, such as:

  • Magazines
  • Bore Sight
  • Range Finder
  • Ear Protection
  • Eye Protection
  • Gloves

Direct Action Dust Tactical Backpack

We’ve heard from many people who say that they find tactical backpacks too bulky and that they don’t need an abundance of space when taking a day-trip. If you’re searching for a lightweight tactical pack that holds a day’s worth of supplies, you’ll want to check out the Dust Tactical Backpack from Direct Action. Customers can purchase the backpack on Amazon for just under $140. It comes in nine different color options.

Direct Action made this back of 100 percent Cordura 500D, making this backpack just as durable and water-resistant as the other models on our list. Certain backpack colors are also Near-Infrared treated, making the packs more difficult to spot with night detection. This feature comes on three Dust models:

  • Kryptek
  • Pencott
  • Multicam

Direct Action redesigned the pockets on this backpack, adding elastic so that they can expand quickly. The bag also has a laser-cut MOLLE/PALS system that is low-profile and snag-free. The pack measures 5.5” x 10.2” x 16.5” and has a capacity of approximately 30 liters. The pack weighs a little bit more than 2.5 pounds, making it easy to carry. The company also included a Vent System that makes it more comfortable to wear for prolonged periods.

Customers were impressed that even though this pack was small, it still provided a padded laptop or tablet pad. They also remarked that the backpack was very durable. Customers said this pack quickly worked its way into their lineup of tactical bags and that this was the go-to option for quick trips.
